Process Engineer

Advanced Material Solutions was founded in Missoula, MT in 2018 and serves the semiconductor, photovoltaic and battery industries with custom technology solutions for silicon materials.  We have developed and acquired core technology for the manufacturing of high purity silicon materials.  We have a joint venture, SemiLink Materials, a global, high-growth manufacturer and distributor of high-purity chemicals serving the semiconductor industry, located in Stevensville, Montana.

Position Summary

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Process Engineer to join our team. This role is responsible for designing, implementing and optimizing industrial processes to boost efficiencies, quality and safety.  This individual will design chemical processes through the development of basic engineering packages (PFDs, P&IDs, equipment specifications, etc.) for our customer facilities.

The Role

•       Process Design & Optimization: Develop, configure, and optimize industrial processes from start to finish, ensuring smooth operation and scalability

• Data Analysis & Simulation: Take measurements, interpret data, perform simulations, and use process models to find the most efficient production strategies

• Troubleshooting & Improvement: Identify bottlenecks, troubleshoot issues, and implement innovative solutions to increase output, reduce waste, and lower costs

• Documentation & Compliance: Maintain detailed process documents, create standard operating procedures, and ensure adherence to safety and environmental regulations

• Collaboration & Reporting: Work with cross-functional teams (production, quality control) and present findings and proposals to management

• System Upgrades: Test, upgrade, and recommend modifications to equipment and systems to support continuous improvement

• All other duties as assigned

The Candidate

•        Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering, and a minimum of 1 year of experience in chemical processing or equivalent combination of education and experience in materials processing

•        Knowledge/experience with distillation and hazardous chemicals is preferred

•        Knowledge of MS Office, statistics, and process simulation software

•        Project management skills

•        Ability to travel internationally

Job Type Full-time, exempt position on-site Missoula, MT with possible travel to Stevensville occasionally and for most positions international travel up to ~25% of calendar days.

 Schedule Typically Monday to Friday, with occasional weekend travel or while at customer site.

Process Controls Engineer

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Process Controls Engineer to join our team. This role is responsible for designing, programming, and implementing industrial process control systems with a strong emphasis on PLC-based automation. The Process Controls Engineer will support ultra-high purity chemical manufacturing processes through control system design, implementation, and continuous improvement, while working closely with process engineering, operations, and customers.

The Role

•        Process Control & Automation Design: Design, develop, and optimize process control systems for chemical manufacturing operations, from concept through commissioning and startup.

•        PLC Programming & HMI Development: Develop, test, and maintain PLC programs and operator interfaces (HMIs) to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation of manufacturing systems. Lead PLC architecture design, control logic development, and troubleshooting activities.

•        System Commissioning & Startup: Lead or support commissioning, startup, and optimization of control systems for new and existing processes, including factory and site acceptance testing.

•        Documentation & Standards: Develop and maintain electrical schematics, control narratives, process descriptions, and other relevant engineering documentation. 

•        Customer & Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with process engineers, vendors, and customers to translate requirements into effective control solutions. Present technical concepts, system status, and improvement recommendations as needed.

•        Instrumentation & Loop Control: Specify, commission, tune, and troubleshoot instrumentation and control loops for all types of process measurements (flow, pressure, temperature, level, and analytical instrumentation).

•        All other duties as assigned

The Candidate

•        Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.

•        Minimum of 2 years of experience in process controls, automation, and PLC programming, preferably on the Siemens control platform in an industrial manufacturing environment.

•        Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare technical documentation and presentations.

•        Project management and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.

•        Ability to travel internationally
